As the end of the year draws near the Maasai Olympics are in full swing here in the Amboseli ecosystem. Five of the six regional competitions have been completed and the warriors eagerly await the 13th December, when all four manyattas (warrior villages) will come together to compete in the finals for 6 events: the 200m, 800m and 5000m runs; spear & rungu throwing; and vertical high jump. The winning team will leave with a trophy and prized breeding bull, but all the warriors will leave having demonstrated their physical prowess through something other than lion killing.
