Our ranger teams are on call 24/7 because living alongside wildlife isn’t always easy. Elephants sometimes wander into farmland, wildlife can end up in trouble, and people can find themselves in harm’s way. They can be serious moments, and that’s why our rangers move quickly to protect lives and keep the peace. But sometimes, the call brings hope—a reminder that people and wildlife can share this land, and that with your support, we can help make it possible.

Recently, a herd of zebras in search of grazing had wandered through human settlement, and one unlucky youngster found itself in a man-made hole.

Our rangers responded quickly, reuniting it with its mother and its herd, who were waiting nearby. Ironically, the foal’s saving grace was getting stuck in a human settlement area because there were people there to see it and to call our rangers for help.

Human development is necessary. Roads, fences, and farmlands are an inevitable part of this, but nature needs space too. That's why we work with local landowners across Amboseli to lease areas that can be kept free of obstructions and keep wildlife safe.

When wildlife strays out of protected areas, as they inevitably do, our rangers will always be on call to help.

If you’d like to stand with these rangers in a meaningful way, consider joining our Ranger Club as a monthly donor. Your steady support helps ensure rangers can keep responding whenever wildlife needs help. And as a thank you, all new Ranger Club members this month will be entered to win a special print of One Ton, one of Amboseli’s most iconic elephants—a daily reminder of the lives you help protect.
